International Research Centre for Early Language Learning

 

International Research Centre for Early Language Learning (IRCELL) is an organisational unit of the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, without legal personality. It has been co-founded by the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac, Serbia, and the Department of Primary Education in Florina, University of Western Macedonia, Greece, with headquarters at the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, Milana Mijalkovica 14, 35000 Jagodina, Serbia.

The main aims of IRCELL involve research on issues related to teaching a second/foreign language to young language learners, alternative assessment of young learners, bilingual and multilingual education, as well as training teachers of a second/foreign language on approaches and methods for teaching languages to young learners.

IRCELL is also concerned with encouraging innovation in language teaching and assessment, developing educational materials, organising scientific lectures, seminars, conferences, summer courses and other scientific events related to ELL,  bilingualism/multilingualism, and assessment.

To achieve the aims, IRCELL will cooperate with governmental, scientific and social institutions that deal with issues of ELL and assessment, with universities and institutes in the co-founding countries and abroad, and with individual researchers/scholars/academic with expertise in doing research in ELL, assessment and bilingualism/multilingualism.

IRCELL is managed by the Research Committee (RC) consisting of the following five members: 1. Dr Eleni Griva, National Research Centre Coordinator  and RC Chairperson (Greece), Department of Primary Education in Florina, appointed by the University of Western Macedonia, Greece; 2. Dr Stavros Kamaroudis (RC Member) appointed by the Department of Primary Education, University of Western Macedonia, Greece; 3. Dr Isaak Papadopoulos (RC Member), appointed as an independent researcher by the Department of Primary Education, University of Western Macedonia, Greece; 4. Dr Marija Stanojević-Veselinović (RC Member), appointed by the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac, Serbia; 5. Dr Vera Savić, IRCELL Manager and RC Chairperson (Serbia), appointed by the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac, Serbia. The RC of five members was formed in January 2020 to initiate, organise, monitor and participate in the activities of IRCELL in the period 2020-2023.
