Bachelor of Arts in Class Teacher Education


Level of study programme: Undergraduate academic studies, first degree higher education

Duration: Eight semesters – four years

Study programme pre-requisites: Enrollment in the first year of study is done on the basis of an application procedure announced by the University of Kragujevac, and conducted by the Faculty of Education, Jagodina. A candidate who has previously completed a four-year secondary education can enroll in the first degree studies. The selection of candidates for enrollment in the study program is based on the success achieved by the candidate during high school education and the success achieved at the entrance exam, which is organized by the Faculty.

Mode of study programme delivery:  Blended learning

Study program objectives and description of the program: The study program Class Teacher Education lasts eight semesters, i.e. four school years and equates 240 ECTS credits.

The program has all the elements provided by the Law on Higher Education and standards for accreditation of study programs and levels of study. The type of study and the outcomes of the learning process are in line with the Law on the National Qualifications Framework of the Republic of Serbia.

The purpose of the program is to educate students and train highly professional staff to perform the responsible role of teachers within the educational system and also to develop professional skills, gain relevant experiences that enable planning, organization, implementation, evaluation and improvement of the teaching and learning process in the first cycle of primary education.

The main objective of the study program is to acquire and develop students’ competencies for independent, highly professional and critically thought-out realization of all forms of educational work in the first cycle of primary education.

The curriculum of the program contains 36 compulsory and 74 elective courses, of which the student chooses 10. In the first and second years, the student can choose two elective courses, while in the third and fourth years the student can choose three elective courses.

In each year of study, students have an internship. In the first year, an internship lasts two weeks and carries 3 ECTS credits, while in the second, third and fourth year, the internship lasts 4 weeks and equates 6 ECTS credits.

Teaching includes lectures, exercises, consultations and mentoring. Special attention is given to individual work with students during consultations and mentoring. The visits of experts, which the Faculty periodically organizes within workshops and conferences contribute to the quality of teaching.
