The Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac has a long and distinguished tradition in teacher education spanning more than 125 years.
The institution was founded in 1898 as the Male Teacher Training School in Jagodina, becoming the third teacher training school established in Serbia at the time. Under the leadership of its first principal, Sreten Adžić, the school quickly became recognized as a modern educational institution, featuring boarding facilities, specialized classrooms, workshops, a school park, and innovative teaching approaches for that period.
Despite interruptions and difficulties caused by the First and Second World Wars, the school preserved its educational mission and continued to develop. In 1919, female students were admitted for the first time, marking an important step in the modernization of teacher education.
A major transformation took place in 1972, when the institution became the Pedagogical Academy, continuing the education of primary school teachers in a modern educational environment. The expansion of facilities and teaching capacities further strengthened its role in teacher education in Serbia.
In 1993, the Pedagogical Academy became the Teacher Education Faculty, continuing its work at the university level and preserving a century-long tradition of educating teachers and educational professionals.
Following contemporary trends in higher education and the development of new study programs, the institution was transformed into the Pedagogical Faculty in 2006. In 2012, it received its current name — the Faculty of Education in Jagodina, University of Kragujevac.
Today, the Faculty combines tradition and innovation through modern study programs, contemporary teaching methods, international cooperation, and interdisciplinary research, educating future teachers, preschool educators, researchers, and education professionals committed to the development of education and society.
